does nascar need to do away with it?

i say yes.

let the fastest 43 cars that qualify race, with the exception of a championship provisional.

this would open the door for more smaller teams to come in and have a shot to become successful other than just bein in the top 35

nascar has done a great job for the points and chase format but have done nothing for the lower ranked teams tryin to make their way like the 78 team has.i think there would be more teams like that if nascar would do away with the top 35 and give them somethin more than last place to race for.

i hate seein a faster car go home because of this rule.

stop sending cars home that out qualified the cars in "the top 35 in points" that will probably just start and park anyway!!!!

As much of everyone wants to get rid of it, and trust me, I want it gone too. It allows the less rich teams a better shot at being successful. That's what NASCAR needs, more teams.  But being the Realistic person I am, NASCAR won't get rid of this rule anytime soon.  They've had it this way a long time, and I doubt there gonna just suddenly decide, "Ohh we don't need this rule anymore, let's get rid of it."

I agree that there should be a change in the top 35 rule. Drivers who are in the top 20/25 do not seem to have a problem with speed to qualify. The problem that I see is a driver that is 5th in points, not a past champion and he crashes on the first lap of qualifying would not make the race.  Maybe it should be changed to top 15 or top 20 maybe even those who are chase eligible. I also would like to see a change in the champions provisional. I don't like it when Bill Elliott, Terry Labonte, or any other retired champion is hired by a start and park team just for a guaranteed starting position. In my opinion it should be only for active (full time) past champions or just do away with it.

Heck yes! I've been hoping for a long time that NASCAR would do away with the top 35 rule.
