CUP SCRAMBLE  -  Green Flag Deadline

-Rules:
1 . Each race week a list of 5 drivers will be listed. Pick the order the drivers will finish in respect to each other using the names or numbers as written above.

2 . Submit your position picks before the drop of the Green Flag.

3 . Any driver/car that is not racing for whatever reason will be counted as last position finish so edit/pick accordingly. This is usually because he/she did not qualify. If the car is still racing but driven by another driver they will be counted as the regular driver so be sure to check who has the ride that week especially if they are a slip seat team. I will do everything in my power to make sure which drivers are driving that week.

4. If you should happen to pick one driver twice the second pick will be voided and no score will be awarded. If you should give me more than 5 drivers I will take the first 5.

5. If I goof matching driver to car number always go with the CAR NUMBER.

E-mails: If you choose to make your picks via e-mail I must receive them by 10PM the night before any race. (That is Saturday night for a Sunday race and Friday night for a Saturday race.) Please keep in mind that your mail may float around in cyber space for a time before they reach me so pick your timing accordingly. I will reply to you once I receive your mail.

Is NASCAR "Chasing" It's Tail?

Is NASCAR “Chasing” its tail? (Pun intended). I understand tweaking the rules, I understand tweaking the package, and I understand that NASCAR has to move the product forward and in a new direction. But since the inception of the Chase format, NASCAR has changed the equipment package completely two times, and the rules entering the Chase pretty much every year. They keep telling us that these implementations are to make the racing “more exciting,” to give us “more side by side racing.” And to give smaller teams a “better chance at racing for a championship.” Wait… what? Other than the second half of the race at Loudon, I’ve seen some pretty ho hum racing this year. Even the Richmond night race (which is normally one of my favorites) was pretty dismal. Please don’t get me wrong, I am STILL hard to pry away from the big screen during a race, and tend to schedule my life around 36 weekends from February through November (I love you and the children Jill… I swear I do!), but let’s go all the way back to 1988 when NASCAR decided to use restriction orifice plates (I can’t bring myself to say “restrictor plate because the word just does not exist) at Talladega and then Daytona when speeds started to climb past 200mph. I understand that this was implemented for the safety of the drivers and the spectators, but flash forward to 2001 when we lost Big E at Daytona, Ryan Newman’s wrecks at Daytona in 2003 and 2014, and Carl Edward’s wreck at Talladega in 2009. Add a Tony Stewart flip or three, and an Elliott Sadler flip or two, ALL at tracks that use the restriction orifice plates, then look at tracks like Michigan and Atlanta where speeds over 200mph are the norm and what do we get? Confusion. They claim that they are trying to keep expenses down, but now after millions that teams have spent on R&D to make more horsepower, NASCAR is going to reduce the horsepower which will cause the teams to spend more money on engine R&D.I said over two months ago that NASCAR needs to make changes to the Daytona and Talladega tracks, WHICH would save the teams money… but wait, who owns those tracks? Oh yeah, the France family… never mind. How about taking some downforce off of the nose of the car, some grip off of the rear of the car, and bringing another tire company like Hoosier back into the sport? Make a tire that wears, forcing drivers to race and conserve just like they used to. No more two tire or no tire strategies on long green runs. The new “spacer” system is just another version of the “restrictor” plate racing, and I wonder how it will force side by side racing. For the most part, at tracks 1.5 miles long and up, there never has really been a lot of that “side by side, beating and banging” racing that we see in the highlight clips or in movies like Days of Thunder. The “cookie cutter” tracks were designed to add more seats and sell more tickets. Now some of those seats are covered in tarps during the races so the television audience doesn’t see the empty seats.NASCAR…do you want to make the racing more exciting? Go back to tracks like Rockingham, and North Wilkesboro.  Or add the Milwaukee Mile. Heck, add another road course or two. Leave the car alone.Onward… Forward… Upward…See More
